Desi Girl with a twist ;)

The trends are changing desily 🙂

“Salwaar kameez? Oh my God! I will look like my mom!”

This would be the typical reaction of any fashion conscious girl. That myth no longer exists really, thanks to the recent times in colleges all over India. Funky and stylish college wear kurtis have definitely become the in thing for colleges everywhere. The dream of every college going girl is to look stunning and gorgeous, and what’s better than a simple kurti and jeans to look your best?

In some colleges, students have fashioned a chic ethnic look for themselves. Kurtis with puffed sleeves or full sleeve kurtis paired with Patiala’s or tight churidhars/ leggings, grunge kolhapuri chappals, or mojrees, mix-and-match accessories, and light eye make-up and voila you’ve made your style statement for the day.

What is great is that girls can mix and match accessories and make a salwaar or a patiala look just as cool as any other outfit. Short kurtis or t-shirts , Patiala’s and elegant kurtis with matching ballet shoes, mojrees and flip-flops is what college girls swear by and are assured never to go wrong with. Think about a sleeve-less black ganji and a pleated Patiala with lots of bright colours on it and a jhola bag 😉 and your ready to hit the road 😀

Who can forget the trend that Kareena Kapoor set with the TEEs and harem pants in Jab We Met, which some at college often try to pass off as a dress code! That look was accepted by one and all as it was so simple yet so fashionable. Oversized jholas, Osho chappals, colourful stoles, funky belts over kurtis, and loud accessories seem to be the flavour of any season among the fashion conscious. Boring salwaar suits have been shown the door. Finally! J

It’s time to dig out those salwaars and stoles that you only wore for a for pammi aunty’s daughters engagement :P, who knows what sets of outfits one might end up with if one experiments with it all! Atleast now you’re never going to hear people knit the word ‘behenji’b with their desi attire, because if you’re not carrying a bit of desipan in you…you’re definitely not following the right trend! 🙂
